"Commons and cities" network
Are commons and "civic uses" a new paradigm of urban development and a solution for the crisis of Eu democracy? "Commons rise up!" aims to create an international laboratory of exchange and co-production of best-practices developed at the city level. This campaign is addressed to local communities, activists and administrators through a road-map of meetings and workshops of co-design. A new Europe can arise from below, on the basis o new institutions and models of society.
Naples as headquarter; Barcelona, Athens, Lisbon, Madrid, Malaga and others.
Democratic and social crisis of Europe met important answers at the city level: over the last years several experiences of mutualism and radical democracy arose. By connecting these fragementated struggles and by building a common strategy can lead to build a new European society from below.
The construction of a permanent laboratory of good practices produced from below will lead to switch the right to the city from a merely defensive to an offensive stance. Micro-experiences can turn into new models of society and urban development around commons, social rights and radical democracy
A major limit of this great number of experiences at the city level is the absence of mutual knowledge and resources for mobility and publicity. We will develop a campaign by moving to different cities, organizing techinical workshops and public meetings. All the documents produced by the mutual exchange will compose a "manifesto of practices" where every one can permanently give his own new contribution and ask support to the others.
Jolie Rouge connects several activists partecipating in social struggles and cultural activities in different areas of Naples. We think the only solution for democracy is to re-think it from below: over last years we moved to different cities and promoted a first meeting (Commons and cities).
In Naples "urban commons" are open space for democracy, self-organization, association, mutualism and culture. People involved are wifes, unemployed, students, precarious, children, migrants, old, Across Europe these role models are protagonists, audience and beneficiaries of this projects.
