Idea pitch

Cities4Europe - Europe for citizens will showcase successful local initiatives that engage citizens, present ideas for new forms of democracy and map out a positive, common future.
The campaign wants to inspire cities and other levels of government, including the EU institutions, to pursue mechanisms and tools that engage citizens in policy making, strengthening new forms of democracy across Europe.

Where will your idea take place?

EUROCITIES member cities http://eurocities.eu/eurocities/members

Why does Europe need your idea?

With Europe striving to retain its legitimacy and relevance in the face of growing disillusionment and Euroscepticism and with politics failing to match people's expectations, cities can provide a critical link with citizens and play a crucial role in shaping the future of Europe

What is your impact?

The campaign will bring people and policy makers together to explore new ways of involving citizens in the decision making process at all levels of government. Recommendations on possible new forms of deliberative democracy will be presented.

How do you get there?

Throughout May 2018, ‘Cities4Europe - Europe for citizens’ will showcase successful local initiatives that engage citizens, present ideas for new forms of democracy and map out a positive, common future. Organising citizens' consultations and other initiatives, cities will have the opportunity to show their commitment to co-creating societies where people come first, and where trust between citizens and public authorities is strengthened.

What is your story?

With the EU at a cross roads, we need to seize the opportunity to change the way things are done in Europe.
Europe’s cities and metropolitan areas offer the right scale to respond to the challenges Europe is facing and to co-creating sustainable societies where people come first.

Who are you doing it for?

We are in the process of partnering up with a number of pan-European entities so to reach out not only to the usual suspects that are already interested in politics, but also to those that are more likely to be attracted by extremist and populist ideas.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We would love to have your view on how to make this campaign a success and something useful for citizens from all across Europe, as well as for our cities and communities.
