Idea pitch

We propose a novel approach to dissemination by “physically” taking democratic practices to other schools. Members of the Learn to Change network will start the ball rolling in their own schools. In turn they will relay the good practices to the next school, to disseminate, train and address specific needs. Teachers from the receiving school will go to the next school. This goes on, with new schools able to join and act as a stepping stone to disseminate good practices for democracy.

Where will your idea take place?

In various cities across Europe through the Learn to Change community.

Why does Europe need your idea?

We would like teachers to act as bridges between schools and schools to become stepping stones for dissemination. We want to invest in teachers and empower them to bring about change in school communities, using a bottom up approach. We want teachers to empower teachers to act for change.

What is your impact?

We hope to have teachers and schools that are actively working to bring about change in society through education for democracy. Ideally we will have several schools engaged in this exercise at the same time with more wanting to join.

How do you get there?

We will use Learn to Change’s network to engage as many schools as possible to "relay-train" teachers. We will use material developed by Learn to Change, including the "Cards for Democracy" (www.cardsfordemocracy.com) to disseminate ideas and good practices. We will also network with other schools through personal connections and calls on social media. Throughout there will be a running blog to document the experience highlighting activities and good practices.

What is your story?

We have worked together to develop democratic and inclusive practices. We have seen the power of our common endeavor and experienced how this journey has empowered us as education professionals towards interdisciplinary teamwork. We now want to share and support others on this journey.

Who are you doing it for?

We want to support educators in implementing practices to strengthen human rights and democracy at school. We want to acknowledge, celebrate and disseminate good practices while empowering educators to act.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We strongly believe in the co-construction of knowledge when designing and enacting ideas. Any critical and constructive feedback will support us in developing our ideas further and is greatly appreciated. We are also open to cooperate with other entities.
