Bike safe! Bike fast!
The launch of such project can serve as the pilot project, where the positive experience can be adopted by not only other cities of Ukraine, but also Europe. Despite the fact that most European big cities have more developed cycling infrastructure than Lviv (wider range of cycle lanes, tracks, special passages across the road, traffic lights etc.) it doesn’t work properly in whole city. Each cyclist needs to work out the route individually thus to move safely near the cars and on separate cycle tracks. The application produced by cycling experts will assist the cyclists from different cities in finding the most acceptable route.
We just care about urban infrastructure and environment that are destroyed due to an excessive number of cars on the city roads. We want to see our city safe and clean, and we believe that a rise in the popularity of cycling will help us to achieve this goal. If our suggestion is considered acceptable, the situation with cycling in Lviv will differ in a year (the number of road accidents including the cyclists will decrease, the number of cyclists will increase, moreover, the number of car owners will be less which means safer environment, healthier people etc).
The project will be launched in Lviv, Ukraine. We are planning to develop a map of bicycle routes as an application for a mobile devices (smartphone or tablet on different operating systems), as well as the web-site, where anyone can get the access through the Internet browser. Choosing the points A and B on the map, the user will get the information about the most appropriate route (the safest way to cover the route he/she has chosen). In addition, due to the app, the cyclists are able to obtain the information about bicycle parking, cycling stores, rent and repair offices, cafes etc. Then we intend to run the campaign promoting the use of app and website (project presentation, promo video and its translation on local TV and/or public places, billboards, city lights, etc.).
