Idea pitch

AWE provides an online multimedia journalism platform aimed at portraying the young European generation's collective thought that explores what Europe's soul is made up of through the use of personal storytelling. The main objectives are to become the main platform for pan-European storytelling, to give agency to the European youth, and to facilitate pan-European cooperation in the journalism field. We do this through our thematic quarterly magazine, presenting our contributors' creative input.

Where will your idea take place?

AWE focuses on offline events such as festivals/workshops currently in the Netherlands and France.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Democracy alludes to engagement, participation and agency. AWE encourages the European youth to take this on by delving into their own experiences of Europe: of what it means to be European. Providing Europe with a personal counter-narrative would strengthen its current level of democracy.

What is your impact?

AWE will have carried out its two 2018 strategies: 1. Print, webshop and offline events, and 2. Quarterly magazine, interactive storytelling and separate projects. Print: the best contributions will be selected for a print magazine/Webshop: selling our contributors' products/Projects: branching out

How do you get there?

The print magazine will be crowdfunded by our audience: this way we test a crowdfunding model with a reward-system. It will also be sold at our events. Regarding the webshop, we will develop one that offers print photos. We will test the online traffic generated by the webshop, and if it doesn’t, we will test with a small exhibition of photographs at our events. Separate projects will be set up by us and/or our contributors (e.g investigative pieces, podcasts, blogs) via funding.

What is your story?

We truly believe that the future is not just online. In order to create an engaged community of like-minded and talented Europeans, you have to have a variety of channels. A print magazine is a great addition to the Are We Europe foundation. Along with podcasts, workshops, travels, festivals & more.

Who are you doing it for?

Are We Europe targets the European youth (approx. 16-35) , who seems to not have enough representation on a broader spectrum. We want to offer our contributors the chance to present their own opinions, ideas and approaches in a structured way.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We would love to receive feedback on our two strategies, advice on how we could improve them or add elements to them. Advice on how to increase our reach, online/offline. Ideas about partnerships would also be highly appreciated, as well as inspiring young people to become contributors for AWE.
