National Coalition Germany - Network for the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
Most European countries have a complaints mechanism for children, but Germany does not. This project will work towards a vision of an effective ombudsperson in Germany that can ensure that opinions of children are being heard.
In order to protect and promote children´s rights all over Europe, all European countries need institutions such as the ombudsperson´s office to guarantee children´s rights . Cooperation between European countries will raise awareness and provide information. The cooperation and joined forces can especially be of great importance when it comes to questions concerning children on the move across Europe.
International networks, such as the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) facilitate the promotion and protection of the rights of children on a European level. Germany would benefit from the exchange and could also share good experiences in the implementation of children´s rights with European partners.
The aim of the project is to close the gap of ombudspersons for children in Europe. With the help of European partners and local stakeholders, we want to develop a vision of an effective ombudsperson that could be implemented in Germany. Gaining local support thanks to international expertise would be a success. As an outcome document, we will develop a vision for the establishment of an ombudsperson for children in Germany.
Thanks to research into how a selection of European countries have organized their ombudsperson institutions, we will organize a European conference in Berlin on how to establish an ombudsperson for children in Germany. Not only key stakeholders from different European countries will share their knowledge and experiences , also children and young people in Germany will participate at the conference and give their point of view. A guiding document outlining the next steps to be taken will result of the sharing of knowledge, experiences and opinions.
