Research & Degrowth France
The post-growth future lacks inspiring stories. Research & Degrowth France wishes to build post-growth narratives. The processes will involve constructive dialogue to find an alternative path beyond the competition/closure dichotomy; at scales that make true democracy possible, based on empathy between cultures and a degrowth of resource use. These new stories will be disseminated to fill the gap of post-growth narratives in people’s minds, lifestyles and programs of political parties.
Two opposing narratives dominate current discourses, one stating that "globalization and economic growth is the single path", and another that "we should close our doors and borders to defend our present lifestyles". The challenge is to find an alternative path that integrates different perspectives based on dialogue. We want to create a participative space where people collaborativelly construct new narratives.
Our long-term aims include no less than access to basic needs, meaning in peoples' lives, availability of resources for future generations, prevention of conflicts over resources, inspiring involvements in societal decisions, convivial exchanges, justice in the world, intercultural dialogue & prevention of involuntary migration. The outcome will be that we have post-growth narratives and a process that can compete with existing dominant narratives and be disseminated in publications and events.
1- Development of the methodology. Training team of facilitators
2- Identification of perspectives: culture, areas of concern, limits, scales of actions, actors, strategies, sectors, needs etc.
3- Identification of dimensions and links between them. For example strategies may include the strategies of opposition, alternatives, reformism etc.
4- Building of narratives
5- Small scale application in summer school – feedbacks are used for improvements
6- Full-scale application involving 200 participants of the Budapest conference
7- Processing results
8- Dissemination of results through multiple media and in diverse formats, and public relations
9- The process can continue...
This will be beneficial for everybody but especially for those that want to participate in the creation of a more democratic, ecological, and just society.
What would entice you to participate in a group process to imagine new societal narratives?
