Migrants are highly vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, but only a few are ever identified as victims of trafficking. During their journey, they risk injury and violence at the hands of smugglers or are unable to continue their journey due to injury, illness or crimes committed against them. Criminal groups in several parts of the world have expanded their realm of activity to include kidnapping migrants in order to extort large sums of money from relatives abroad or for sexual workers.
WINK FOR HELP campaign involves designing, producing and installing multi-language effective information signs at border-crossings, as well as media and advocacy campaigns, broadcasting of TV documentaries and video information messages documentaries and marking of the EU Anti trafficking day- 18 October. The objective is to raise awareness, to aid victims of human trafficking by creating a body- language signal, easy to recognize, that victims can use, silently, to alert authorities.
Wink for help signboards ( 4 in each 5 countries) shall be developed and produced in several languages of ethnic communities present in the region, but also in Arabic, Dari and Pashto in order to reach potential victims of human trafficking and smuggling originating from these areas and which are coming in a growing numbers. Besides border crossings, signs would be also posted at main paths of human traffickers and smugglers in the region to be jointly identified with border police and Ministry of Interior representatives. Besides signs, on the highway passing through Balkan countries would be posted billboards to enhance message impact and reach on both citizens and migrants through Balkan. We will use as well public debates, TV documentaries & Media.
Target groups are CSOs, national and local authorities and decision makers in the targeted countries, but the final beneficiaries are Women and children migrants victims and potential or at risk of human trafficking. Also, the responsible institutions of Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia and international organizations dealing with migration issues, especially from Germany as migrants country of destination.
