EUROSCOPE is a public design, permanent and scalable installation which aims to connect people of Europe. In each city involved in the project one periscope will be built and installed in public space. Each periscope is a big tube with a screen at his end equipped with audio/video connection in order to stream in real time what is going on in front of another one. The project starts with one periscope in Ancona (Italy) and one in the Rhur area - but any country can adhere with its own periscope!
In recent years many European citizens showed a lack of European identity, unprecedented levels of Euroscepticism and a general sense that integration hasn’t gone further politically. Indeed, the emergence and deepening of an EU citizenship is a key aspect for a real integration.
EUROSCOPE intends to spread and deepen the European identity by connecting people in real time in a free, simple and unconventional way.
EUROSCOPE aims at making European citizens tighter, by enabling them to freely interact at anytime and to discuss about any topic, thanks to its interconnected periscopes. Throughout the project we expect citizens to ‘feel’ more connected among them and to develop a positive attitude towards European integration. In the future we hope to spread EUROSCOPE all over Europe, by installing 28 periscopes in 28 cities, one for each EU country!
Nerto will follow the required procedures to obtain the necessary permissions to install the periscope in the central area of Ancona. A delegation of the association will meet the local Authorities in the Ruhr area, in order to present the project and to obtain approval to execute it. Once the permissions are obtained we will start to build the periscopes. We estimate it will take 3 months including a brief testing period. Once ready, they will be installed in the selected areas.
An on line promotional campaign will be implemented by Nerto. Official launch of EUROSCOPE will include a simultaneous public event at the two sides of the periscopes.
As the periscopes won’t be removed at the end of the project, they will become a recognized point of interest for the involved cities.
Generally speaking we are doing it for the citizens of all ages, nationality and religion. Our primary target group are the local communities but we hope the periscopes will be enjoyed by as many beneficiaries as possible, they can be residents, tourists, europeans or foreigners, including also migration groups.
Stakeholders of the project are: local authorities, private enterprises, entrepreneurs, NGOs.
We are looking for private partners operating in the telecommunication and IT fields, especially if settled in Germany, to join the project and co-ordinate it locally. Our dream is to install 28 periscopes in 28 cities (one for each EU country), so if you are interested in our idea and you’d like to make it grow, contact us!
