Roma advocacy and research Centre
This program puts together Roma Parents and Teachers from Primary schools. Generally, Roma do not trust education system and they do not trust Teachers. We put together two different groups of people, that will work together in schools. This cooperation will bring change into the local community, where Roma and majority are living. Roma will start to believe in education and they will help their children to learn. Majority will learn about Roma community.
The challenge is include Roma back in society and to break up the stereotypes about Roma communities. Roma communities need to be the active part of majority communities and they need to have responsibility for their own lives. Roma communities need to get empowerment and it can be only if they will get chance in education field. The social inclusion starts in the school and we need to build a new type of communities, where everyone has the same opportunities and rights.
The aim is to start equal relationship between Roma and majority. And equal relationship is based on educated community where their members understand to each other. The successful outcome will be a community where Roma are accepted, not discriminated and active members of public life. And the results of this equal relationship will be the fact, that Roma will be accepted as people and citizens from majority.
Our plan is to involve Roma parents as mentors to the education system at primary schools. They will help teachers with the education process and they will be active part of school life. The unemployed parents will come into the schools daily for 2 hours. They will help teachers at the lessons as mentors. The first impact of these activities will be direct for the life of Roma families, because they will get empowerment from work that helps children. Parents will feel as part of the school. They will create events and seminars for other non Roma parents and they will start to learn from each other. Second, when Roma parents will be in the schools with teachers, they will learn too. At least, Roma parents will be more pushing for their children to get better education.
First target group are Roma communities. It will help parents, children and whole communities to change their bad position in the society. Second group is town community, because it will create an inclusive environment and people will be more flexible to accept multicultural groups. It will also help to eliminate hate, racism and discrimination. This will help also whole society, because we will start real Roma inclusion into the society.
