Artikle 24 is an events social enterprise that fuses entertainment with empowerment to make equality a fun, sexy, sociable, and accessible resource for absolutely everyone.
Named after 'Article 24’ of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Artikle 24 is born out of the belief that every human being has the right to enjoy life outside of work. We provide equal access to a leisure-time that empowers anyone and everyone with uniquely playful yet purposeful alternatives to worrying about work.
Artikle 24 challenges the marginalisation of underprivileged groups in leisure and entertainment often resulting from socioeconomic disadvantage. Artikle 24 rejects the assumption that these groups are only destined for a 'live-to-work, work-to-live' existence and that leisure-time is a dispensable luxury that goes beyond the provision of basic necessities. We believe that in the midst of today’s global challenges, we must remember to feed not only the mind and body but also the soul.
Currently, Artikle 24 is holding pilot events in Valencia; however we aim to be organising bimonthly events in 30 different cities spanning Europe by the end of 2017. We hope to achieve an average 50:50 ratio of customer:beneficiary participation in each event of around 25 persons. To scale up our activities and impact, we will operate an ‘ambassador model’ in each city while using sponsorship and business-to-business sales to ensure our economic sustainability as a non-profit enterprise.
Artikle 24 charges an affordable entry fee to our customers, the general public, which subsidises the participation of our beneficiaries who are identified by our local NGO partners. Our events, championed by our ambassadors, encourage the mixed participation of our customers and beneficiaries (always with careful consideration and organisation) to promote our community values of dialogue, trust, empathy and understanding amongst all. We collaborate with local venues that provide us with the space, cuisine, and atmosphere for our events to come to life. Finally we offer our events as a healthy work-life-balance tool for companies looking to increase satisfaction in the workplace which is an additional revenue stream ensuring our sustainability and ability to reinvest in our social mission.
Artikle 24 works on the social inclusion of underprivileged groups residing in Spain, France, UK and beyond. These vulnerable persons mainly include refugees and immigrants; women in at-risk situations, young people, and the underemployed. However, we are passionate about bringing our joyful events to anyone and everyone experiencing socioeconomic insecurity (not forgetting our customers too) since so many of us are struggling and suffering from the effects of inequality and instability.
