Interkultur in Aktion gUG (haftungsbeschränkt)
Pädagogische Hochschule Heidelberg
With our „IK-Kids“ projects we show children in grades 3 and 4 how manifold and exciting the world is. In diversified and fun activities, we impart social and intercultural competency. Children present a country they choose freely; learn that seemingly self-evident things can be different in other cultures; and reflect and experience how difficult it is to get along in a new environment. This motivates them to help children coming new into their class.
Germany is more than ever developing into a country of immigration. For many people, this is accompanied with a feeling of threat and the fear of losing their own identity. Children who are still very open to new ideas and people a being influenced by adults and meet newcomers to their class with suspicion instead of interest.
We want to help children to appreciate the variety and chances of different cultural backgrounds. They will approach new children with interest and the desire to support them. Thus, integration is supported and the newcomers will sooner feel as part of the group.
We want to expand already existing material for projects in primary schools and teach students as facilitators to hold these projects.
They will then go to primary schools and do different activities (writing stories, role-plays, games, debates, etc.) with the children.
