Idea pitch

The program will focus on mapping, lifting up, collecting, recycling and reusing of the collected marine litter. Below are the two main components of the project:
a) the establishment of marine litter and fishing net collection points in fishing communities around Greece and;
b) the implementation of diving and coastal clean-up missions around Greece.
In this context,our team cooperates with local fishing communities and municipal authorities in order to develop awareness events.

Where will your idea take place?

Why does Europe need your idea?

By raising awareness, training & engaging local communities we aim at promoting marine conservation in order to help preserve the oceans for future generations. We do believe that balance in ecosystems is fully linked to democracy and development and works towards ensuring peaceful coexistence.

What is your impact?

Our vision involves setting up recycle stations around Greece in cooperation with municipalities and fishing communities for the disposal of marine litter. In addition, we aim at demonstrating to local communities the benefits of keeping oceans clean through innovative waste management methods.

How do you get there?

Our team implements introductory initiatives at local level while highlighting to local authorities, fishermen and citizens the added value and the benefits of the protection of marine environment for local society. Our activities also include training of local actors in order to ensure continuity of activities and responsible waste management that is founded, inter alia, on partnerships with the private sector.

What is your story?

Our team is motivated by the serious human threats to the marine environment and the inadequate responses by the global community. We also believe that awareness and cultural change could demonstrate a crucial role for turning such a huge threat into a successful practice.

Who are you doing it for?

The program implementation is founded on partnerships with volunteers, local authorities, fishing communities and organizations. We highlight the importance of personal contribution for facing such a global threat.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We will be happy to receive feedback on similar initiatives implemented at global level in order to encourage sharing of best practices and building synergies. It will also be important to receive recommendations on how we could further improve our work.
