Idea pitch

DIYsigner is a collaborative online platform and workshop method that aims to support the Open Design movement in Europe. It allows citizens to create design furniture by making plans accessible, and boosting local knowledge and tool sharing systems in order to really democratize design.

Why does Europe need your idea?

One of the most important topic for us, and for Europe as well is Social Innovation. We see DIYsigner as a tool to foster it. A tool, that can be used by young and old, expert and amateurs as well. Via this tool we can build stronger local communities with the touch of the common European values, we can boost alternative forms of economy, sharing economy as well. It answers to the problem of tight resources by shaping conscious consuming and building well working communities. It gives opportunities to young designers to enter the market by getting real life feedback and for the makers a chance to work with quality, cool and safe design plans. By the production on demand it is a real sustainable alliance.

What is your impact?

We hope that the open source workshop methodology will be adapted and organized successfully in different cities via the platform. We expect personal feedbacks of makers, uploads of realized projects and development of products based on comments. We imagine that users going to feel they belong to the DIYsigner community, and it helps them to be a self-assured maker - or even a designer. We would like to build strong partnerships with similar collectives around Europe who will co-edit the platform, build local networks, invite new actors to collaborate, such as universities, organisations to set up DIYsigner workshops. In one year, we would launch the beta version of the platform and start long-term partnership with at least 3-4 committed admins in different countries.

How do you get there?

The implementation will start with a Budapest based research phase where we develop a preliminary business plan and looking for partners across Europe for the starting year (1 Month). The beta version of platform will be elaborated together with the partners: during this period we visit partner cities, work on site with partners, organize DIYsigner workshops and accumulate open design plans (3 Months). This will follow by the development of the beta version of platform, with further consultations and creating DIYsigner workshop manual (6 Months). We plan to launch platform with DIYsigner event around Europe. The next two years will be for testing our idea, constant redevelopment and preparation for a self-sustainable system.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We are open to discuss our more detailed plans with organizations interested to join the network.
