105+dB is a new sonic artwork about identity, place and participation. Using the noise of crowds to question what it means to belong as an individual and as a mass in modern Europe by capturing the 3D sound of 4 major european football games and recreating their sonic architecture in public spaces.
Leeds, UK, Dortmund, Germany, Lille, France
105+ dB will connect cities across Europe, presenting an opportunity to get within the heart of one another, to feel the physical vibrations of a crowd and to position yourself within it. Inviting commentary on themes of humanity and collective power.
We hope to be able to reduce certain stigmatisation of football, forging partnerships between artists and football clubs, as well as presenting highly accessible innovative new art in the public realm for the participation of millions. It poses important ideas around our role as individuals in modern European society.
It is a work that once developed can continue to be delivered and scaled up to other countries and continents. With the potential to connect cities globally.
To deliver the project across 4 European cities allowing people to participate in their landscape in a new and playful manner.
The installation should make people look at their cities in a new way, bringing them together through a large scale cultural event that reprograms the space and the way it is used and how they behave within it.
We hope that people will be encouraged to consider not just the role of the crowd in public space but also find echoes of themselves in the noise of the crowd from another location, highlighting our similarities and parallels across the continent.
Placing digital and new technology at the heart of how culture is created and proposed to the public. Bringing together sport and art to create a highly memorable project with lasting impact.
