Accent on Promotion of Women Activism in Armenia and Georgia, particularly those of young journalists, through organization of series of trainings for a selected number of female students who are in the stage of studying their professional degrees or fresh graduates from both countries.
The very "World Press Freedom Index 2014" claims that “…considerable social polarization is reflected in the media and the climate for journalists, who are often harassed by pressure groups. Given that the political orientation of individual media usually coincides with that of their owners, it would seem that respect for the editorial independence of media employees is still limited”.
Having said that and bearing in mind two key factors – young women, as a mighty source, and the applicability of social media and blogs to support this source to reach to solutions more easily, we think that there is a necessity for skills building for young female journalists, that will stimulate young women’s activism and socially responsible professional activism in our countries.
We aim to promote women activism in both countries through organizing advanced skills trainings for young women journalists on internet literacy, blog development, content writing and provision of unbiased information.
The outcome of the project will be:
- 30 young female journalists from both countries will get training;
- at least 15 new blogs in Armenia and 8 new blogs in Georgia will be developed and maintained with a specific focus on women related issues;
- at least 2-3 articles developed and posted on blogs on a weekly basis on women-related issues in each country
Trainings will be accompanied with practical tasks/ assignments, starting from the second month of trainings. The tasks/assignments will be prepared in coordination with the project designer and mentor. After the training session the participants will be allocated respective time to finalize the project. The result will be evaluated by a group of judges consisting of the project trainers, project implementers and project experts. Each project will be discussed with the participant and further comments and recommendations will be made to improve the results.
