Idea pitch

The project seeks to understand which disconnects in the EU can be overcome through joint action and how we can improve collaboration by using digital technologies. The project focuses on facilitating dialogue between politicians, academics, activists, for them to collaborate on defining challenges.

Where will your idea take place?

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Why does Europe need your idea?

The overall project goal is to uncover the problems that deputies and experts from different countries face in European politics - independent of their home countries. The project thus brings together different perspectives in order to find the similarities that can help invent the solution to current challenges. And because the workshops explicitly ask all participants to come up with solutions to the problems they find, we will be able to compare these in order to see whether there might be a some common ideas amongst all the participants. We will provide a connection and facilitate dialogue between those that shape and live in Europe, which we believe is something Europe indeed needs.

What is your impact?

The planned outcome is to gain understanding about what the national deputies from Slovenia regard as crucial problems in the European legislation process and - most importantly - to have them draft solutions to these identified problems. In a year from now we will have gathered information from multiple debates like this one in Ljubljana and come up with analysis of all the proposed solutions to MP’s problems.
Hopefully the debate will help strengthen the connections between local MP’s, MEP’s and civil society in Slovenia, resulting in a frequent and mutually beneficial dialogue amongst all interested parties in the future.

How do you get there?

We think the cooperational approach in setting up the workshop in Ljubljana is key to successfully realising the event. With an experienced and innovative player “on the ground”, Danes je nov dan, we have all the expertise needed to understand the specificities of Slovenian politics. At the same time, the European Democracy Lab, based in Berlin, has already gathered experience in organising and running such workshops: In 2014, two workshops were successfully held in Berlin and Paris, with support by Dr. Norbert Röttgen (Chair of the Bundestags’s foreign affairs committee) and Claude Bartolone (President of the French Assemblée Nationale). The workshop would be moderated, accompanied, and evaluated with the software EIDOSTM, developed to visualise complex decision making processes.
